I wanted to share a letter that I recently sent to the Temecula Valley Unified School District regarding a viral video in which a mother shares excerpts from a disturbingly graphic assignment given to her young daughter in drama class. This incident once again demonstrates the need for parents to stay connected and involved in their child’s education.
Up in Sacramento, I work hard to vigilantly guard against and stop proposed legislation that would strip away parental rights or local control. Bills like AB 1078 pose significant concerns. This bill in particular would inject the opinions of unelected bureaucrats from California’s Department of Education into the decisions made by school boards and curriculum provided in local schools. This is unacceptable, and I will continue working to urge my colleagues in the Legislature to help defeat this dangerous bill.
It is essential that we continue to advocate for parents’ rights and always empower them to stay involved in and connected to their child’s education.
